On the 23rd of March 2018, Seth was formally indicted by a grand jury for the murder of Hayden, which alleges that he beat the child to death. His case is now set to be heard by Judge Scott Schlegel in 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna, Louisiana; he faces mandatory life in prison if convicted. The trial has yet to take place. He had a prior criminal record prior to the murder, having previously been arrested on charges involving possession of marijuana and aggravated robbery. A common misconception regarding the case is that he was his biological father. This is, however, not the case, as Hayden was the product of her previous relationship prior to her relationship with Seth. According to Piper, she had some of her son's organs donated after his death. His heart went to a little girl under the age of 5 in Arizona, his liver went to a little boy under the age of 5 in New York and both of his kidneys went to a man in his 40’s in Pennsylvania.
Her ex-boyfriend Seth Redell was responsible for the murder of her two-year old son Hayden Umbenhower in April 2016. Though details of the incident remain sketchy, he at first said the boy fell and hit his head near the back door of the house and was unconscious. The child was transported to University Medical Center, where he died five days later. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said that his story changed several times but that he told police he took him to the shower after the fall and ran water over his head in an attempt to revive him. The child died as a result of injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome. He suffered from subdural hematomas, brain swelling and retinal haemorrhaging in both eyes.
