Pooh to those fancy pants actresses who deem themselves such brave artistes because they cradle a profile of teat or lift a rear cheek for an artfully shadowy mood piece. These posers pale, they are dashed to mediocrity, they pule and whine like mangy alley cats when exposed to the luminous, exultantly naked presentations of French and fabulous delicacy Emmanuelle Seigner. The Parisian pouter was discovered at the age of seventeen by pervy Polish genius Roman Polanski, who no doubt saw something special deep inside her. The diminutive director seems to have dedicated his relationship with Seigner to showing the rest of mankind every secret thing that he saw in her. When Emmanuelle casts aside her clothing in a film, rest assured that the clothing will stay cast aside for a while. Her sweet, swoon-inducing moon rises so much in Bitter Moon (1994) that the casual viewer is liable to develop a fixation. Le Sourire (1994), replete with extensive studies of Emmanuelle's trimmed vulva hedge, will only feed the fires of fixation. After Seigner's, it's tough to go back to any other backside.
