As a TV premise, it sounds like no big deal now—a nice Jewish boy goes ga-ga for a gorgeous goy chick—but in its day, the sitcom Bridget Loves Bernie was as controversial as bestiality. It was also Meredith Baxter's introduction to the world of stardom. TV audiences were smitten by her kittens, even if they were hardly evident behind all that '70s polyester.
