Melissa Sue Anderson was born a shy, bookish girl in Berkeley, California. She had no intention of becoming a star and turning men on with her innocent good looks. But that's just what happened when her dance teacher urged her parents to find Melissa an agent. Soon the blue-eyed beauty was making TV commercials. Then in 1974 Melissa landed the role that would come to define her. She started playing Mary on the long-running hit series Little House on the Prairie. And that's where she stayed. Outside of some guest spots on other TV shows such as The Brady Bunch and The Love Boat, Melissa remained the chaste girl, like a rose cursed to bloom unseen in a desert. After the show went off the air, frustrated viewers waited with bated pants for her transition to the big screen. Sadly, with equally family-oriented fare such as Skatetown, U.S.A.
