The hit series Gilmore Girls is supposed to be a realistic look at romance, but it’s hard to suspend disbelief when caustic preppy cutie Liza Weil--as Paris Geller--can’t ever get a date. As the college roommate of Alexis Bledel, Liza even once resorted to dating an ancient academic. We were a lot less offended when she celebrated Spring Break by giving Alexis a Gilmore Girls Gone Wild-style kiss on the dance floor. The show still provides an appropriately splashy showcase for Liza, who’d been toiling in minor roles in movies and television--despite early acclaim in NYC’s theater scene and starring in the heavily hyped indie film Whatever (1998). That turn as a troubled young ’80s gal got Liza plenty of exposure, including how she exposed herself totally nude for a beach scene. She may have been strategically curled up, but Liza made up for that by parading around in vintage ’80s bras.
