Frances McDormand is a feisty firecracker of a film star with a penchant for low-key, real-life dramatics that bring an organic authenticity to whatever character she assays. Whether it be the mother of a rock-journalist prodigy in Almost Famous (2000) or a massively pregnant rural sheriff in Fargo (1996) or her debut as a kittenish and adulterous wife in Blood Simple (1984), McDormand's seemingly easy, natural delivery belies the fact that she is a well-studied Yale graduate.
