Bernadette Heerwagen's career is more or less based on a funny coincidence. In 1992 she accidentally met director Miguel Alexandre while visiting the Bavaria Filmstudios in Munich. Two years later he called her up asking whether she'd like to play the title role in his feature-length debut Nana. At the beginning Bernadette questioned Alexandre's motives as they hadn't spoken since their first meeting but then accepted the offer and took four weeks off from high-school in order to shoot the movie. Everything else is history. Nana was very well received and it triggered further parts for the young actress in such acclaimed films as Das ewige Lied, Die Nacht der Engel and Z
